Pervious Concrete Pavement
What is Pervious Concrete? Pervious concrete is a mixture of course aggregate, cement, water and typically, no sand. With no sand in the mix, a 15-25% void structure allows 3-8 gallons of water per minute to pass through each square foot.
Applications: In Cold Climates, slipping and sliding are virtually eliminated. There is no ice build-up on pervious concrete. As snow melts, it passes immediately through the pavement, leaving the surface dry and reducing safety concerns.
Cool Pavements: Cooler parking surfaces result in cooler ambient temperatures reducing the demand for air conditioning, saving energy and demand at power plants. The light color of pervious concrete reflects thermal heat and the void structure allows the earth’s cooler temperatures from below to cool the pavement.
Lower costs by reducing or eliminating the need for stormwater structures, piping, inlets and some cases, even ponds. The pavement acts as a detention area. Stormwater is filtered as it travels through the pervious concrete and aggregate base layer where it percolates into the soil recharging groundwater aquifers.
